Dog Food Recipes

People assume that all dog food recipes are the same. This cannot be further from the truth. Many dogs are allergic to one thing or another. You will want to be sure that your dog has no known food allergies and that each new recipe you try there is no adverse reaction. That is one of the benefits of making your own dog food. You can change the ingredients to accommodate your dog’s needs. Long gone are the days where you had to buy an expensive specialty food that is of no better quality than what you buy locally from your vet if you have a sick or allergic dog. You can do it all from home and save your wallet.

What You Can Use

There are so many types of foods you can use in your dog food recipes. Dogs can eat Chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, some liver, and some types of fish. Vegetables for dogs include carrots, broccoli, green beans, peas, and squash. The best fillers to add fiber and extra carbohydrates to your dog’s diet are brown rice and oats. These are preferred over corn any day as they actually have nutritional value for your dog. The type and consistency of the foods will all depend on what recipe you use. Each one will call for a different type of method and food list. Even the most difficult of dog food recipes are easy to use and not time consuming to make.

Easy Chicken Recipe

If you think it will be hard to make your dog his food at home, try a good crock pot chicken recipe. Put five pounds of chicken into your crock pot and add enough water to completely cover the chicken. Add in half a large bag of brown rice and cook till soft. After the chicken is fully cooked, add a cup of oats. The best part of this recipe is that you can set it up before work in the morning, leave it in the crock pot on low all day, add the oats when you get home, and serve. This recipe will feed an average sized dog for about three days. If you want more than this recipe calls for, just double or triple the ingredients. Make sure if you make more than three days worth you store it in the freezer.

Hamburger Helper For Dogs

Hamburger is one the biggest ingredients in dog food recipes. Everyone wants to give their pup some real beef. This is an easy to prepare recipe that can be used any time. As with any other type of food, make sure to use it all in three days or freeze after preparation. Take one pound of ground beef and brown it in a bit of canola oil. Add 2 chopped and cooled boiled eggs, half of a cup of warm plain oatmeal, and two table spoons of plain small curd cottage cheese. Last add a jar of stage 2 baby food carrot and a jar of stage 2 baby food green beans.
